ÔAndyÕs CandyÕ
Tastes Sweet Success
The Cream Is Rising
Player Scenarios Posted
The suspiciously-named Team
Andy & A Van Full Of Candy (Andrew Rider)
muscled out Da Bowz
for the top spot on the leaderboard Sunday night when Arizona defeated Gonzaga.
Team AndyÕs biggest win, however, came when Baylor knocked out Creighton in
convincing fashion. He was one of just 24 players to correctly forecast the
upset. The five points moved him within striking distance of Da Bowz. Team Andy
now has the honor of remaining the leader for at least three full days, figuratively
driving his van around our block honking his horn. Rider finished in 100th
place last year, but this year he has a great chance to knock off those two
pesky zeros. He got hurt when Duke lost in the first round, but otherwise his
bracket is still in great shape.
Andy should keep a close
eye on his rearview mirror, however, for there are several players in hot
pursuit. As Se–or
Wences said to me yesterday, ÒThe cream is rising,Ó and he wasnÕt just
referring to our resident Gus Johnson super fan
(still hanging around in 4th place). In fact, the Se–or was referring to
himself. One reason the updates have been a little slow this year is because on
Saturday I travelled to visit the Se–or in Aruba, where for almost three weeks
now he has been battling the heat and having to constantly see all these tall,
blonde Dutch beach bodies. Needless, to say, the Se–or was elated when he, PoliticalGrrl, natethegreat and squidy diddy earned
five points on the field for being the only players to correctly pick Stanford
in the Sweet 16.
Still, despite the big
Stanford win, the Se–or has only managed to lift himself to 38th place.
However, he was correct that there is definitely some Grade A cream in the top
tier. Stumper (#1
lifetime points, #3 average place) and BillÕs Best (#5
lifetime points) are both in the top 10, and J Dub (15-year
veteran, former champ) has settled into 14th. Reigning champ Cotter and former
champ Blizzard T.
Husky are both in the top 22.
Mixed into that bunch are
some other players looking to assert themselves. Robjd3 (Robert DuPrau) is
getting his 5 Year Ring this year, and he climbed 60 spots to 7th place
yesterday thanks to Kentucky and Baylor wins. He has a very healthy bracket
remaining. The biggest mover of the day, though, was jprose 24 (Jessica Stover),
who jumped up 70 spots to 19th. She now trails only Monster (Derrick Mimms) in
the battle for Fort Bragg supremacy.
But even if you arenÕt one
of the players at the top of the board, thereÕs still hope. Fifty-eight
players, nearly half the field, can still win it all, and almost everybody can
still win a prize. IÕve posted a new report, Player Scenarios,
which tells you your best and worst possible finishes, and also which teams to
cheer for. You can check it out at the Report Package.
The next Daily Recap wonÕt
be until Saturday, when the Elite 8 is established. However, the current standings
will still be updated Thursday and Friday as the games conclude. Good luck!
